Town of Indian Trail Residential Streets

Location: Indian Trail, NC

Client: Town of Indian Trail

Scope: Resurface six residential streets, using half Hot Mix Asphalt and half Warm Mix Asphalt

Time Frame:

Highlights: Although not a large project, including only a few residential streets in Indian Trail, NC, our warm mix paving job was a huge hit! Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA) is a more environmentally friendly method of paving, using cooler asphalt, which in turn, makes the job more comfortable for employees and eliminates the smoky fumes usually associated with paving. Six streets were paved, half using regular Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) and the other half using WMA so road agency personnel could observe our demonstration and subsequent results.

We installed an Astec Double Barrel Green system at our Monroe plant, which uses water to create a foam to coat the aggregate. Another benefit of using WMA is the allowance of a higher reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) content in the mixture. We ran test strips prior to beginning the project so we knew how to set up our rolling pattern to achive density and were able to use the same pattern on both the HMA and WMA sections. A year later, the roads are still clean and smooth with no cracking. Paving 'green' is the way to go!
